Alec Brown, 89, of Marietta, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.  A graveside service will be held at 12:30pm on Sunday, July 12 at Mountain View Park Cemetery.  Alec grew up in hardscrabble times.  Nevertheless, it never broke his spirit.  The Great Depression taught him many lessons.  He took those lessons to heart and lived his life according to those values with which he grew up.  He was a self-made man in the truest sense.  Hard work was his everyday routine.  Many benefited from his generosity, his zest for life, and his good humor. Alec, or "Pop" as the family called him, loved to go fishing.  Every chance he got, he would go.  He also loved gardening.  Even when he got on in years, he still grew tomatoes to give to others. He was kind, generous, gentle, and universally respected.  Consistent with his beliefs, he kept life simple, grounded, and reserved.  A man who every day lived by the Golden Rule.  All who knew him were truly blessed."

Alec is survived by his son, Michael A. "Mickey" Brown (Joanie), of Jasper; sister, Annette McClure, of Jasper; grandchildren, Ashleigh Olsen (Steve), of Jasper, Courtney Frankland (Brooke), of Powder Springs, and Justin Brown, of Jasper; and a great grandchild, Olivia Olsen. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Garriss Brown.
