Barbara Jean
Ferguson
Aug 28, 1936 — Dec 9, 2024
Barbara Jean Ferguson, 88, of Acworth Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024. She was born on August 28, 1936, in Powell, Tennessee, to the late Jay and Susie Morgan. Barbara was the 8th of 10 children and was blessed to be part of a large, loving family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Viola Morgan, Hal Morgan, Lynn (Edith) Morgan, Jay Morgan, Elizabeth (Curtis) Fowler, Howell "Bud" (Emma) Morgan, Margaret (Herman) Gilbert, and Helen Morgan, as well as her husbands Donald Helms and Paul Hale.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Warren) Quinley; her daughter, Melinda Helms; her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Kelly Helms; her grandson, Parker Helms; her husband, John Ferguson; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Barbara enjoyed a wonderful childhood filled with play, sports, and time with family. After graduating from Fulton High School, she moved to Washington, D.C., with her sister Dorothy to work in the FBI's Administration. It was during this time that Barbara deepened her faith and became passionate about her relationship with the Lord and her local church.
In 1966, Barbara met and married Donald Helms, and they moved to Roswell, Georgia, to raise a family. As a devoted mother, she later accepted a position with the Roswell Police Department as the Secretary to the Chief of Police, a role she held until her retirement in 1998. Barbara was dedicated to her family, often sacrificing her own time to run errands, attend events, and ensure her children's needs were met. She was also a faithful member of GraceLife Church (formerly the Marietta Church of God) for 56 years, where she found strength and community in her faith.
Barbara was an extraordinary mother to Melinda, Eric, and daughter-in-law Kelly, and a loving "Grammy" to her grandson Parker. She had a zest for life, always ready for an adventure and sharing her infectious sense of humor. Despite facing life's challenges, including the loss of loved ones and her husbands, Barbara's love for life and joy for living never wavered.
Barbara's faith in Jesus Christ was central to her life. She was a dedicated servant of God, always ready to share her testimony of His goodness, and she lived her life as an ambassador for Christ. Her unwavering faith, loving spirit, and determination serve as a lasting inspiration to all who knew her. She ran the race, kept the faith, and she showed us all how to finish well!
