Obituary

Mrs. Betty Jean Moon passed away on Thursday June 13, 2019.  With family by her side, she was called peacefully to heaven by our gracious Lord and Savior. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 11:00am in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home with Dr. Nelson Price officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Jean was married to Marvin Moon, a retired Major with the Atlanta Police Department for 64 years.  She was the matriarch of their family, raising 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy.  Her son Eddie had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  As a homemaker, her priority was that her husband and their children were lovingly taken care of, and Eddie was given the care he needed in his short yet significant life.  Jean dedicated many years to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Jerry Lewis Telethon, serving on the Board of Directors.

Jean was born and raised in Atlanta.  Her father, Ernest White, was a Captain with the Atlanta Fire Department.  Her mother, Clara White, was a homemaker and a loving provider to her family.  She graduated from Brown High School, where she was a cheerleader, among other accomplishments.

Jean was a member of Roswell Street Baptist Church. She and Marvin spent many years as youth choir sponsors and Sunday School teachers.

Betty Jean Moon was preceded in death by her son Marvin Edward "Eddie" Moon, Jr., her grandson Cody Edward Thomas, her mother Clara Belle White, her father Ernest Leo White, and her sister Sue Sauls.

Betty Jean Moon is survived by her loving husband Marvin Edward Moon, Sr., daughters; Christi Moon, Paula Moon Nelson, husband Dan Nelson, Sherry Crutchfield, husband Bo Crutchfield, granddaughters; Jamie Moon Hoos, husband Sergeant James Hoos, Margaret Thomas, Danielle Nelson and Suzanne Nelson, grandsons; Jacob Nelson, Joshua Nelson and James Nelson, great granddaughter; Emma Thomas, along with many other close family members and friends.

Most importantly, Betty Jean Moon loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Her life was a reflection of His love, kindness and grace, which led her family, and many others to salvation as well.  What a blessing she was! The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 19 from 5-8pm at Marietta Funeral Home.
