A celebration of life will be held for Billy Hugh "Bill" Guthrie on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Eastside Baptist Church 2450 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, Georgia 30068. There will be a family visitation from 1 – 2 PM, followed by a celebration of life service from 2 – 3 PM.

Billy Hugh Guthrie passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022 at the WellStar Community Hospice in Marietta, Georgia.

Bill was born at the Batten Farm in Pearson, Georgia on May 23, 1933 to Gerald D. Guthrie and Mabel Tanner Guthrie, and enjoyed a Christian upbringing with his four brothers and four sisters on a farm in Willacoochee, Georgia. Bill enjoyed playing sports and especially enjoyed basketball and played at Willacoochee High School and at the Southern College of Pharmacy. Bill decided in his teens that he wanted to become a pharmacist and initially attended South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia before completing his pharmacy degree at the Southern College of Pharmacy which is now known as the Mercer School of Pharmacy. Bill went on to serve his community as a pharmacist for 60 years of which 33 were from his own store Guthrie's Pharmacy in the East Cobb community. Bill was also very active at his church Eastside Baptist Church and in the community through various civic organizations. Bill also served as a medic in the United States Army reserves for 8 years and loved his country and the freedom it provides.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Gerald D. Guthrie and Mabel Tanner Guthrie, in laws Carroll Dobbs and Mary Lanier Dobbs, Marion McKendree and Georgia Lewis McKendree, wife Ida Jeannette Dobbs Guthrie, brothers Royce Guthrie and Willie Daniel Guthrie, sisters Geraldine Guthrie Sears and Anna Sue Guthrie Luke, step daughter Patti Evces Price, and step son in law Dale Helms.

Survivors include his wife Marie McKendree Evces Guthrie, children Glenn Guthrie (Ruthann), Lisa Guthrie Palmer (Russell), Kerry Guthrie (Sabrina), Tracy Guthrie (Tina), Kelly Guthrie (Erica), Paula Evces Helms, Brian Evces (Barbara), Guy Price, brothers Sammy Guthrie and Bobby Guthrie, sisters Margaret Guthrie Harper Smith and Faith Guthrie Bennett. Grandchildren Dustin Palmer, Missy Palmer, Nathan Guthrie, Morgan Guthrie Rainey, Jake Guthrie, Lily Guthrie, Ellie Guthrie, Macy Guthrie, Townes Guthrie, Vivienne Guthrie, Anna Price Burroughs, Rachel Evces Calhoun, Aaron Evces, Lexi Evces Rodgers, Payton Evces Magann. Bill is also survived by many great grandchildren and a multitude of nephews and nieces who loved their Papa/Uncle Bill and the time they got to spend with him.
