Musical Prelude: "7 Years," by Lukas Graham, 2015

Eulogy, written and read by Halley Flynn:

Brenndan Randle Flynn, age 40, passed away at his forever home in Marietta, Georgia, on Thursday, July 8, 2021. To call him a friend is a privilege, and to call him family is an honor. Time never stops, but it is inevitable that our life in this world eventually will. While his Exit was unexpected, Brenndan turned in his golden ticket, climbed aboard the Stankonia Express, and rode off before the sunrise on a trip to his final destination. He took a part of our hearts with him when he went, but there is no doubt that Brenndan is finally reunited with his little brother and dad in Heaven.

Brenndan was born on January 8,1981 at Northside Hospital Atlanta. While his Grandpa and Nona came in town from New York to be there for his birth, Brenndan made it clear that things would be done on his terms and by his watch. After his grandparents left, Brenndan made his grand entrance on a cold winter's night. His dad knew from the start that he was going to be trouble.

Brenndan grew up in Cobb County and was his big brother's sidekick. However, he was not keen on the idea of becoming a middle sibling when the time came. Brenndan gave it two weeks before he told his parents that his baby sister was cute, but that he wanted to know when they were going to take her back. He eventually got over it and years later another baby boy was born, making the Flynn clan complete.

A curious and often mischievous young boy, Brenndan was inquisitive and eager for logical answers. One day he asked his mom about how babies were born. After hearing her honest, kid-friendly explanation, however, Brenndan was not convinced. He proceeded to tell his mom that he did not believe what she told him, and that there had to be a better way.

Brenndan attended Blackwell Elementary, McCleskey Middle, Sprayberry High, Floyd College, and Kennesaw State. After a week in kindergarten, he wanted clarification on the necessity of school and an education in his life. Brenndan let his dad know that he had given school a try, it was not for him, and therefore decided that he did not want to go back. Discovering that this was not an option, Brenndan made the best of his school days and became a social limelight.

Brenndan brought humor and fun with him to class. His smile was contagious and his punchlines were impeccable. It was hard not to like him and even a few teachers bent the rules to ensure that he passed. Brenndan was smart, but he did not feel the need to overexert himself in his academics just for a free pizza or a meaningless blue ribbon. He purposely got out in the spelling bees, was a riot to watch in school concerts, liked field day and Intermurals the most, and used his curls to his advantage with the ladies.

Anyone who grew up in Canterbury or nearby can tell you that it was the best childhood to have. There were races from sewer-to-sewer in a game of Pickle under the streetlamps, Flashlight Tag with unlimited boundaries, and Homerun Derby in the cul-de-sac or at the tennis courts. There was Capture the Flag at Noonday Creek, and Paintball Battles in the woods at Canton and Hawkinstore. We had memorable 2 on 2 basketball games amongst the Flynn kids, or the entire neighborhood gang was invited over for a "friendly" competition in our driveway. We would ride bikes or walk to Conoco, Hawaiian Ice, Kroger, Blockbuster, Blackwell Theatre and Dr. No's. There were a few after-hour visits to the pool and golf course, and the infamous, screened-in back porch. It was a time when technology did not matter much, but the bikes in the front yard did.

Brenndan was a natural athlete. He tried one season of Blackwell Bears Football and one season of Soccer, and then that was it for those sports. Brenndan spent many years playing Shaw Park Baseball and Northeast Cobb Basketball, as well as his Freshman year for Sprayberry Basketball. He remained a loyal fan of the Atlanta Falcons, Braves, Hawks, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Villanova Wildcats, although he may not have always maintained his composure adequately. Fantasy Football was an exciting time for Brenndan, as he would reconnect with old friends and gamble against them as rivals. He also loved to grill out with his dad and cook with his best buddies.

Brenndan loved Pensacola Beach, diving into the waves and doing somersaults under the water. Summers were mostly spent at White Water, American Adventures, and Allatoona Lake's Kellogg Creek. While we all broke the rules in search of lost money in the Hootch or the Wave Pool, it was inevitable that Brenndan would be the one to strike it rich every time. There was also Mountasia, Six Flags, and Lakewood Amphitheater. Brenndan almost always got something out of the Claw Crane Machine, and he usually conquered the final level of any video game that he played.

Halloween parties were a great pastime in which Brenndan partook in and was a blast to be around. Although his mom did teach him to be creative with putting together costumes, she certainly did not come up with the type of eclectic styles that Brenndan sought after to replicate later on in life. He won a contest at Sidelines as Flava Flav, but also dressed up as characters like Kid Rock, a hobo, and a wealthy customer in support of single mom's. Brenndan felt good when he could make someone else smile.

Brenndan was an Uncle who brought Pampers and Blow Pops. He was the one to notify with special toy requests at Christmas and birthdays. He even took apart, painted, and then reassembled a green Hulk Smash into a red one, because that was what his nephew wanted and so he made it happen. Uncle Boom built the biggest bonfires, and he was the coolest chauffeur in his big black truck. He truly cherished each of his four nephews.

Brenndan wrote some meaningful posts on Facebook, which will now be shared.

Facebook posts by Brenndan Flynn:

(November 25, 2009) "I'm an Uncle!!! Hell Yeah! My sister had a Baby Boy today! Happy Thanksgiving, Damn what an awesome day!"

(February 18, 2010) "Yeah Buddy, it's been way too long. I've been hanging in there, just kicking it with T everyday all day (when I'm not working). We're making the best out of the situation when he's able to get out and about. I won't lie he hasn't been doing too good lately or actually for a while now but we take advantage of the days he feels good. We've been talking about coming out to Arizona and causing mayhem but we're not sure when we can get out there. We will, just don't know when."

(September 10, 2016) "He (Tylor) is my Hero and was taken WAY WAY too early. I miss him every second of every day."

(January 5, 2019) "Long road ahead for my Big Brother, He will be Strong Again. Hug your Parents and Squeeze your kids until their heads pop with Love. Tell them you Love them EVERY Chance you get. Life is one FUCKED UP Journey. Halley will probably have all the Facebook stuff. Love you Guys."

(March 8, 2019) "Hug your Family Every Day. Love You SO MUCH DAD."

Brenndan was a Technician, but the employers he worked for do not deserve to be mentioned. When his little brother was diagnosed with Cancer in 2008, Brenndan put his life and personal future goals on hold to be there for him at all costs. He perceived life the way it should be, in which family was the most important. Brenndan saved his big brother's life when he had a stroke at work and had to be rushed to the hospital. A note was found in Brenndan's room from Regan, which he kept and will now be shared.

Note to BRF, from Regan:

"Just wanted you to know how much we all love you and how proud we are of you. Life has not been easy but you're still fighting and it will guide you, I promise! I loved you from the first moment I knew I was going to be your big brother. Thank you for saving my life, sorry about that."

Brenndan is survived by his mother Dhorea Randle Flynn; his siblings Regan Flynn and Halley Flynn, and his nephews Max Enriquez, Leo Monte, Walker Flynn, and Aidan Tylor Flynn. He was predeceased by his father Gerald Walter Flynn III and his brother Tylor Flynn.

In lieu of a Homily and yet with all due respect, Brenndan would be happy to know that we kept it real and that only someone who knew him got up and talked on his behalf. He believed in Heaven and was an example of a good soul to many through his A ctions, T ruth, L oyalty, and Love . In other words, Brenndan could make it rain with some ATL Love. The Flynn family feels the strong support and heartfelt sympathy from everyone gathered here today, as well as all of the family and friends from across the miles.

Quote by Reverand Nolli Hartwell:

"We say God is all there is and there is nothing outside of God, therefore we are not separate from God…. we are the very action and expression of this creatively beautiful and Unlimited Power and Intelligence…. and all we need to do is recognize this to a greater degree…. that we are some part of this intelligence or Higher Mind…. and therefore literally God means to express. Life is eternal and that we occupy these physical bodies for a time, and then move on to some other plane…. so as you do that it's entirely possible for us to be reunited with our loved ones who simply have moved on from their physical bodies. Enjoy the comfort of feeling that somehow we will know them."

Scriptures from the Holy Bible:

2 Corinthians 4:16-18, "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

Galatians 6:1-2, "Brethren, even if anyone is caught in trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ."

2 Peter 1:2, "And in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love."

Psalm 103:15-18, "Man's days are like those of grass; like a flower of the field he blooms; The wind sweeps over him and he is gone, and his place knows him no more."

1 Peter 3:8-9, "To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing."

Quote by Unknown Author:

"Grief never ends. But it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is the price of love."

Closing Prayer:

Please join me in saying The Lord's prayer, the Our Father:

  1. Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Quote by Forrest Gump:

"There's an awful lot you can tell about a person by their shoes."

Quote by Ludacris:

"Life is short if you don't notice it'll pass you by,

That's why my head is in the clouds trying to pass the sky."

Quote by Tupac Shakur:

"Ain't a woman alive that could take my mama's place."

Thank you so much for being here today, from the Flynn family to yours. Brenndan will be remembered as a loving son, dependable brother, irreplaceable Uncle, mandatory member of an entourage, bodyguard, life of the party, and a true definition of a best friend. We all love Brenndan more than all of the stars in the sky. We expect the royal treatment when it is our turn to join the afterparty with you guys up there.

Peace Up. A-town down.
