Bruce Alphonso Burton, a lso loving known to his family as "The bad man from Eagle Pass Texas." Bruce was born June 13, 1958, in Thomasville, North Carolina. He was proceeded in death by his mother Catherine H. Burton and father Hubert L. Ray. At an early age Bruce joined St John AME Zion Church in Thomasville North Carolina where he attended Sunday school and participated in other church committees. ​

Bruce graduated from Thomasville High School and attended Davidson College. Shortly after that, he enlisted in the military where he proudly stated that he was among the "Few the Proud the Marines." Bruce was a Machine Gunner and received several honors while enlisted. He continued his service for his country and enlisted as a Marine Reservist . ​

Bruce was an avid sports fanatic. He played football and basketball in high school and college. He was not drafted by the Dallas Cowboys like he dreamed but, he always said that he was The Dallas Cowboys number 1"Loyal Fan!" ​

Bruce moved his family to Atlanta for a better opportunity where he was a Market Manager. He was enthusiastic, dedicated and took pride in his work. He was a devoted member of Zion Baptist Church in Marietta GA. ​

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and dedicated wife of 32 years Cynthia Burton. He also leaves a legacy of love from his son Darius Bruce Burton of Marietta Georgia, Daughter Candice M. Gorremans of Fayetteville North Carolina, grandson Nicholas (Nick) Bryant of Marietta Georgia, his brother Tony (Rose) Burton San Antonio Texas, Richard Burton Thomasville North Carolina, John Burton Thomasville North Carolina, His sisters Mary Coleman Thomasville North Carolina, Barbara (Simon) Junious, Dorothy Burton Thomasville North Carolina, Tora (James) Glover Raleigh North Carolina and Uncle Charlie Ray Thomasville North Carolina. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He is preceded in death by his 3 brothers Harvey Ray, Willie Chavis and Steve Burto n. ​

Bruce was a very caring and compassionate person. He always puts the needs of others before his own. He was loving and a fun person to be around, he never met a stranger!  It was the simple things that he never took for granted, always showing his appreciation for everything in life. Above all, Bruce was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was always involved in his son and grandson's lives. He was at every football and academic achievement they participated in. Bruce loved, supported, respected, his wife unconditionally. He was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that would await him in his passing . ​

The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 10:30am in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on the same day from 9:00am-10:30am, prior to the service.
