Carol Virginia Inzer, 79, of Marietta, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 12th at 2:30 pm in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home. Burial will take place Friday, December 13th in Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Rd., Montgomery, Alabama 36109.
Ms. Inzer departed this life with hope and confidence of a better one. Born November 22, 1940, in Mobile, Alabama, she was known as Virginia to her many friends and as Jeannie to her family. She attended school in Montgomery, Alabama, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School 1959. She graduated from the University of Montevallo in 1963 with a major in Spanish. She was active in student government there. She earned her Master's Degree at West Georgia State College and University. She taught foreign languages and math at Campbell High school and J.J. Daniels Middle School, retiring after more than 30 years with the Cobb County School System.
She was a member of Roswell Street Baptist Church and previously Delraida Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL. While in college, she was a summer missionary in Montana. She also volunteered at the Clay House for Unwed Mothers.
An avid sports fan, she cheered the Atlanta Braves, taking friends and family to the World Series in 1991. She also made it a point to attend the Olympics in 1996 and to follow the fortunes of the University of Alabama football team.
Her hobbies were shopping, especially for books and clothes, and making macramé wall hangings and jewelry. She especially delighted in taking some of her nephews and nieces shopping for school supplies.
Survivors include her sister, Barbara Inzer Smith, and nieces and nephews: Phillip Smith, Elaine Smith Hartman, Marcia Inzer Bost, Gail Inzer Baker, Nancy Inzer Nipper, and Jill Inzer, as well as nine great nieces and nephews and six great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, Charles Duard Inzer; sister-in-law, Julia Layman Inzer; brother-in-law, Stanley Smith; and her parents, Duard Eugene (D.E.) Inzer and Grace Carruth Inzer.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 12th from 1:30-2:30 pm at Marietta Funeral Home 915 Piedmont Rd., Marietta, GA 30066, 770.422.1234.
