Obituary

Charles E. Rogers, 90, of Marietta, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021.  A private family funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 6th at 11AM in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home. The service will be live streamed on the Marietta Funeral Home Facebook page.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, January 5th from 4-7PM at Marietta Funeral Home.

Charles Elmo Rogers was born to Ira and Vesta Rogers on October 11, 1930, in Thomaston, Georgia. He was one of thirteen children.

From his first weigh-in, which took place on a feed scale, Charlie spent his childhood plowing fields and tending the farm with his siblings (and definitely not stealing houses with his brother Everett). In 1949, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, serving twice between January '49 and December '52.

In 1952, he married Hortense Pound and they moved from Thomaston to College Park, then to Marietta. Together, they raised three children. Charlie built a strong and respected reputation as a claims adjustor and supervisor at Underwriting Adjustment Company, a career that helped foster his love of exploring the United States. He later launched Rogers Claims and Appraisals, a business he owned for over twenty years before retiring in the 90s. After his retirement, Charlie and Hortense spent the remainder of their time together traveling and spending time with their friends, family, and grandchildren.

After the death of Hortense, Charles and Martha Phillips married in 2003 and have been together since. Upon their marriage, his family grew to include two more children, Bill Phillips and Teresa Phillips Enloe, and six grandchildren. Their eighteen years together were spent between their homes in Panama City Beach, FL and Marietta, GA, and included countless trips around the country in their motorhome.

He was a man of deep faith, a lover of traveling, and all things outdoors, and a friend to any stranger he happened to meet.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 18 years, Martha; his brother Everett Rogers of Austell; his children: Deborah Geter of Marietta; Timothy Rogers (Jayne) of Kennesaw; and Angela White (Scott) of Snellville; two nephews, Jerry and Joe Rogers; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by parents Ira and Vesta Rogers, his first wife Hortense Rogers (née Pound), and eleven of his thirteen siblings.
