Donald Eugene Walker (Don) went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 21, 2024. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and visitors from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at the funeral home.

Don Walker was born in Neodesha, Kansas on May 16, 1931 to Otis O. and Verna Walker.

Don came to Marietta in January 1951, while in the U.S. Air Force at Dobbins AFB. He served his country as a S/SGT in 1919-6 AACS detachment to SAC as an air traffic controller during the Korean War.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce F. Walker, who was deceased in 1995. They were blessed with three children; Donna Jean King (Johnny King- deceased) of Macon, James A. Walker (Debbie) and Glenn E. Walker (Nancy) of Marietta. He is also survived by his four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Donald later married Earlene B Newman whom was deceased in 2011 and has two step sons, and three step grandchildren.  Don and Earlene loved square dancing, going to live in their second home at the Villages in Florida during the fall and winter months, and lots of traveling.  Some of their travels included the Holy Land, Europe, Mexico, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada.   They visited almost every state in the USA traveling in their van for weeks at a time with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Joe Ballew.

Don was also fortunate enough to have a special friend in Frankie Fisher for the past ten years.

Donald was co-owner of Artistic Neon Sign Co., Inc. which manufactured electric signs and installed them for businesses in the greater metropolitan area for thirty years. They also maintained twenty-five billboards on the highways, advertising for local merchants. Artistic had the third plastic forming equipment to mold sign faces here in the southeast and did wholesale work for other sign companies.

Don loved playing golf and gardening. He was a great handy guy and would always lend a helping hand to a neighbor or friend. He attended Piedmont Church and later transferred to Sandy Plains Baptist Church, where he became a deacon. He loved the Lord and was very active in Sunday School and Church activities.
