Dorothy "Dottie" Haygood, 74, of Woodstock, went home to the Lord on February 7, 2022. A funeral service will be held at Piedmont Baptist Church on Thursday, February 10. The Viewing begins at 12:30pm, followed by the Service at 1:30 (mask use is kindly requested). A private interment will follow.

Dottie was born in Albany, Georgia on June 2, 1947 to Fred and Rebecca Hatfield. As an only child, her life became a model of service to her community and the greater good. After graduating the California Hospital School of Nursing in 1968, she proudly enrolled in the Army to serve her country as a combat nurse in Vietnam. There she met her beloved Greg. Soulmates from the moment they met, they were married for 51 years — years that brought travel, children, laughter and love. After Vietnam, she continued working as a nurse, spending the majority of her 50-year career at Kennestone Hospital. There she helped to deliver countless babies into the world, as well as working in the ER and OR saving and treating so many more patients. She then served throughout the Wellstar system in various leadership roles, and was instrumental in implementing the electronic medical records programs used by the doctors' offices and urgent care centers.

After her grandchildren, her greatest joy in the world was praising and serving the Lord at Piedmont Baptist Church. In her later years and in retirement, she would lend a helping hand anywhere the church needed it. From organizing festivals to watching others' children so their parents could worship, she was always willing to lend a hand. A voracious reader throughout her life, her passion was Bible study — She always had the answer for anyone with a question about the Good Book. She was beloved by all who met her, and will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

Dottie is survived by her husband Greg; her son Greg Jr. and his wife Krista; her daughter Jennifer and her husband Michael, and their children Violet and John. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Piedmont Baptist Church.
