Douglas James Roach 86, of Marietta Georgia, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones on October 19th, 2024.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and visitors on Friday, October 25, 2024 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Marietta Funeral Home.

Doug was a loving husband to Ellen Snowdell Sullivan Roach, for 63 years. Father of two children, William Brady Roach 60, and Stacey Jean Roach Harris 56, both of Marietta, spending most of their lives in the family home together. Two grandchildren, Cody Harris 32 (wife Rachel), and Ellie Polk 16, of Marietta.

Douglas James Roach was born in Buford, Georgia on November 6th, 1937, to Ernest T. Roach and Hazel Irene Chatham.

Preceded in death by Brothers Eddie Roach, of Hiram, Robert Lamar Roach, of Marietta. Sisters Judy Harris of Marietta and Betty Jean Clark, of Marietta. Surviving sisters, Shirley Abercrombie, of Pensacola Florida and Patsy Sullivan, of Acworth and brother Billy Ray Roach, of Dallas.

Doug had 45 nieces and nephews between him and his wife, and many of them are in 5 generations and still going. One of the largest family trees in Cobb County. Doug is a veteran of the Armed Forces of The United States of America. After his service, he began his journey in HVAC in Marietta, Georgia being that of Mead-Royal Heat and Air Company. He then became a Home Builder, building hundreds of homes in Cobb, Cherokee, and many other counties in north Georgia as Doug Roach Homes, and BSR Home Builders. He was well known at the supply houses and met a lot of wonderful men and women that would become lifelong friends throughout the years of his building career. His first was his family's very own in 1964 and his last was his family's home in 2011, after losing the original to a tragic fire that destroyed the house and all of the belongings. His never say quit attitude allowed him to stay active and working up until just a couple of weeks before his peaceful passing.

Many would consider Doug a ferocious Workaholic that kept him up and running. He would get up every day and go out and work or look for work. When he couldn't drive anymore, he still kept going with the help of his nephew, Tony, who would drive him around until the wheels fell off! Literally. He loved his family. He would go on yearly trips to Florida with family and close friends. Many weekends spent at playing cards with his brothers and sisters, and close friends, whether it be his house or theirs. Many trips to Biloxi, Las Vegas, Atlantic City with friends to watch the Superbowl. He loved his home teams, the Braves, Falcons and mostly, the Georgia Bulldogs. And he had a love for country music, George Jones in particular. Doug was very much a team player throughout his life. In sports playing many years of softball on award winning teams with several of the local greats. He had a sense of humor that people loved him for, and a heart of gold. Last but not least, I hope they have hotdogs in heaven.  My dad LOVED Brandy's Hotdogs in Marietta, Ga.  It was all he wanted to eat. His inspiration and support will truly be missed but the love that people have for him will go on forever.
