Earl Carlin Jr. 98 of Kennesaw, GA. passed away on Friday August 18, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on September 12, 1924, in Louisville, Kentucky to Earl and Irma Schmitt Carlin.

He graduated from Crestwood High School in Crestwood, Kentucky. After graduating High School, he was drafted, and chose the Navy. He was assigned to the LCI 472 part of The Blackcat Flotilla during WWII. He served in the Pacific Theater as an Electricians Mate. If anyone was unable to perform their duties on the ship, the Commander would holler for "Kentuck" to go do the job. Earl would always do what was needed of him. After a while, the Commander added Lucky to his nickname. "Lucky Kentuck" is what several people still call him today.

Earl was proud to follow in his Family's footsteps and serve his country,  some trace back as far as the Revolutionary War. He Loved his country and was proud to serve and protect the USA!

After getting out of the Navy in 1945, he went to work for Western Electric. He installed phone cables and worked as an engineer for equipment and cabling central offices for many of the Southeast regional telephone offices.

While working in North Carolina, he met a beautiful Long Distance Switchboard Operator, Mae Griffin. She played hard to get, but Earl had a way about him the ladies loved. They started dating and got married in 1947. They lived in Kentucky, where they had two daughters and two  sons. He was eventually transferred to Georgia, where he worked until his retirement in 1985. Earl enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, working on cars, camping, gardening and most of all, being with his family.

Earl couldn't wait until he could harvest the tomatoes from his garden so he could eat a tomato sandwich, which he did every day. He enjoyed canning the tomatoes he used in soups and chili.  His also grew peppers for his special hot pepper sauce.  It was loved by many and several restaurants wanted it and he would give them a bottle to use. He grew many other vegetables such as green beans, turnips, kale, mustard greens, okra, onions to name a few.

He was a friend to everyone he met and everyone loved him. He had a world full of knowledge and could tell you about almost anything. He loved sharing stories of his experiences.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday August 30, 2023 at 11:30 am, at Marietta Funeral Home in Marietta GA. With the interment being at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.@ 2:00pm Pastor Steve Pettit and Chaplain Bob Plowman - officiating

The family will have a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday August 29, 2023 4:00-8:00 pm.

Our wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years Mae Griffin Carlin, his parents Earl Sr. and Irma Schmitt Carlin, his younger brother, William George Carlin, his Aunt Wilhelmina Schmitt and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carlin was survived by his four children: two daughters, Loraine Hames, and Dale (Richard) Jackson; two sons, Gene Carlin and Douglas Carlin.

Nine grandchildren: Patrick (Celeste) Hughes, Elizabeth Amos, Linda (Clay) Canada, Brian and Christy Carlin, Bradley (Monse') Carlin, Natalie Carlin, Casey (Alicia) Jackson, Cody (Morgan) Jackson.

Fifteen great- grandchildren: Wesley Amos, Tiffany (Michael Pizzutiello) Amos, Jessica (Scott) NeeSmith, Alex Pearson, Owen Canada, Connor, Evan and Griffin Hughes, Jarred and Dylan Fain, Paccha and Max Carlin, Colter, Mack and Darby Jackson.

Nine great-great grandchildren: Noah Amos, Milo Pizzutiello, Liam, Wyatt, Adelyn, and Harley NeeSmith, Jagger Amos, Bowen and Haven Burton. Several nieces and nephews survive as well.
