On Friday, February 7, 2020, Edward Smith "Sonny" Melton passed away at age 81.

Sonny was born on April 9, 1938 in Cobb County, GA to Lawrence and Monnie (Smith) Melton. Raised in Cobb County, GA, Sonny developed construction skills and eventually opened his own suspended ceiling business.

In the early 1960's Sonny met and married Bonnie (Seabolt) Melton. Together they became parents to Dana (Melton) diLorenzo, Edward Allen Melton and Jerry Melton. While the marriage was not destined to last, Sonny looked forward to seeing his children and grandchildren at an annual family reunion.

Sonny is preceeded in death by his father, Lawrence and his mother, Monnie as well as his siblings William "Bud" Melton and Mabel (Melton) Crowe.  Sonny is survived by his brother Gene Melton. Sonny is also survived by his daughter, Dana (Melton) diLorenzo, her husband, Rick and two sons, Clark  and Connor; his son, Allen Melton and his son, Jerry Melton, wife Michelle, daughter Kristin (Melton) Patterson, her husband, Daniel and son, Mason., Dalton, Hunter and Garrett Melton and cousins, nieces.

Visitation and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 13 at 10 am at Marietta Funeral Home located at 915 Piedmont Road, Marietta, GA 30066.  A private burial service is scheduled for noon in Kennesaw.
