Dr. Gouranga C. Banik, 58, of Marietta, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday evening, January 23, 2020, in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home, 915 Piedmont Road, Marietta, GA 30066. Viewing will start at 3:00 PM and the funeral service will start at 5:00 PM.

He is survived by his wife Bulbul, daughter Shejuti (Pritha) and son Novonil (Dhipro).

Dr. Banik earned a PhD in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University, an MS in Project Management from University of Manchester - Institute of Science & Technology (United Kingdom), and a BS and MS in Civil Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology.

Dr. Banik was serving as the Associate Dean and Professor at the College of Engineering, University of New Orleans. Prior to this, he served as Professor and Prior Division Head at the College of Engineering, Architecture & Technology, Oklahoma State University; Chair and Professor at the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, Tennessee State University; Professor at Southern Polytechnic State University; Assistant Professor at Northern Arizona University; and Project Manager at Kajima Construction Services.

Dr. Banik was known as a people person to everybody and was actively involved in several community and non-profit organizations, including serving as the President and the Chairman of Board at Indian American Cultural Association, and he served Pujari as President and Chairman of Board. He leaves behind numerous friends in the Greater Atlanta area.
