Obituary

Gregory (Greg) Dirlam Buchanan passed away on Feb. 4, 2024, at his home in Chamblee, Georgia. Born on March 24, 1983, Greg was known for his warm smile, genuine friendships, professional success, compassion, generosity, and steadfast faith in God.

Greg grew up in Davenport, Iowa but lived across the country including stops in New York City and Durham, North Carolina before graduating from Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Greg was a great friend and a gifted student.  He distinguished himself academically while on academic scholarship at the Tippie College of Business, The University of Iowa, forging lasting friendships along the way.

Upon graduating with honors, he relocated to Atlanta, embarking on his career in business. Greg was a natural salesman who loved conversation and had a determination to persuade others if it was in their best interest. Professionally, he began at AT&T before transitioning to the insurance industry, where he spent most of his career.

Renowned as a trusted advisor to businesses across the Southeast, Greg initially lent his expertise at Federated Insurance before joining Snellings Walters, specializing in commercial insurance. Recognizing his passion for the captive strategy, Greg made a pivotal move to join Captive Resources Incorporated as an executive. Within the company, he emerged as a top sales executive, earning recognition for his unparalleled success and ultimately rising to the position of Vice President and shareholder. Throughout his tenure, Greg's expertise in advising companies and his exceptional ability to promote captive insurance strategies remained unmatched until his passing.

Despite living in SEC territory, Greg remained a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially their football team. While he may have hoped for more points in recent years, he never stopped believing that the offense would eventually figure it out and never stopped believing the defense would, once again, bail our Hawkeyes out.

Greg will be remembered for his appreciation for life's simple pleasures: engaging conversations with close friends, relishing a delicious meal from his favorite restaurants, and the love and companionship of his loved ones and Bella, his dog.  Greg traveled the world with family, friends and for business. He saw it all and especially loved sunny days near saltwater. He was a passionate advocate of his beliefs and loved to debate his closest friends. A flag football champion in college with the Fluffy Bunnies, his favorite part may have been the post-game celebrations, especially if women were invited.

Greg knew love. The love of his family. The love of his friends. The love of his dogs. The love of his Lord. He is survived by his father, Roland Buchanan; mother, Karen Buchanan; sister, Sara Buchanan; brother, Isidore Buchanan; his dog, Bella and so many friends who will miss him dearly.

Greg's life will be honored Saturday, February 17th at 3:00 PM at a Celebration of Life at Unity North Church, 4255 Sandy Plains Rd., Marietta, Georgia with a reception following at the church.
