Happy Tucker
Reed
Feb 2, 1948 — Jul 18, 2021
Marietta
Happy Tucker Reed, 73, of Marietta passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Wellstar Tranquility Hospice after a 5 year battle with cancer.
Born February 2, 1948 in Atlanta, GA he was the son of the late Sara Bernice Tucker and Happy Hamilton Reed. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rita Reed; two daughters, Adina Wiley and her husband Brian, Tonya Munevar and her husband Erik; and four grandchildren, Cora, Marin, Lane, and Xander. Hap was preceded in death by his sister Kay Linda Adair and his favorite k-9 friend Buck.
Hap joined the Coast Guard in 1971 and served until 1975. He received the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade.
He was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Forestry, with a Master of Science degree. During his working career he was employed by Soil Systems Inc., Clayton County Water Authority, and retired from ERM Southeast in 2010.
Friends and family will remember Hap for his wit and humor. He specialized in teasing his children and grandchildren and telling them funny stories. He delighted in finding copper-headed rattle moccasins on hikes and proudly stated that he could distinguish dead trees from live ones, but only in the summer time.
Hap loved to camp and travel in his fifth wheel trailer and made friends at campsites from Key West to the Arctic Circle. He was a master of Dutch oven cooking to which anyone who has shared a meal can attest. When not following the call of the open road, Hap enjoyed scuba diving in the Caribbean. He was also an accomplished wood worker and enjoyed turning pens, Christmas ornaments, and bowls on his wood lathe.
The family is not holding a service at present. Please remember Hap by taking a walk outside wearing your favorite pair of khaki pants and a flannel shirt.
