Harold Neal Rich, age 83, passed away on September 12 ^th .   He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer Roscoe Rich and Mary Ethel Rich, his daughter, Tammy Lynnette Rich, and his siblings, Earl Rich, Esco Rich, Edith Pearson, Ruth Ray, Rheba Hilley, Athaleen Garner, Dorothy King, Elaine Richardson and Jack Rich.   Harold is survived by his daughter Terry Rich Elliott, his son-in-law Rob Elliott, his granddaughter Erika Rich Elliott, his grandsons Adam Jones and Brian Jones, and his sister Winnona Rich,  and many nieces and nephews.

Harold was born in Marietta, Georgia, and raised in Cobb County.  He was a graduate of Sprayberry High School and had an LLB from John Marshall School of Law in Atlanta.   He was originally employed by the Atlanta Housing Authority and later built custom houses under his own corporation, Harold N. Rich Construction Company.   He ultimately retired as a residential building inspector for Cobb County.   Harold had many talents and interests.   He was skilled at gardening, and was a butcher in his early years.   He loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends, and was very skilled at turkey calling.   He  raised beagles and dachshunds at different times, training the beagles to hunt rabbits, and enjoyed carving animals from wood in his later years.   Harold loved to watch old movies, wildlife films, and cartoons, and enjoyed vintage rock and roll music. As a young man, Harold was an excellent dancer and taught at Arthur Murray. He played drums with a country-western group for some years in his 30s.    He had a warm sense of humor and smiled often, and made many friends over the years.

Harold was an active member of the Cartersville Shrine Club for many years, serving as its president at one point.   He was also a "Road Runner" for the Shrine Hospital, driving children and their families to the Greenville hospital location for treatment.  He was recognized for the high number of trips he accomplished doing this.

Harold also had another love in his life….cornbread.   He would eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack.   He was never hungry or unhappy if he had a plentiful supply of cornbread!

Harold was a generous, loyal friend, and a great brother and father.  He will be missed by all who knew him.  At the time of Harold's passing, he was a resident at Azalea Manor Personal Care Home in Marietta, where he had made numerous friends.

A celebration of Harold's life will be scheduled at a later date to be announced.
