Hessie "Faye" Meadows Martin, 90, of Marietta, passed away February 24 after a long and full life following a brief battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 7 at 3:00pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2922 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta, GA, 30066.

Faye was born in High Point, North Carolina to George and Alverta Meadows.  She had two sisters, Oleen and Betty.  Faye graduated from High Point High School and High Point Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

She moved to Marietta in 1957 after marrying her husband, Joe V. Martin, Jr., whom she met on a blind date at a military dance arranged by her nursing school.

As a Registered Nurse, she worked for Kennestone Hospital in the ER for 32 years.  She was the charge nurse for many years and always worked the night shift.

Hobbies and activities she enjoyed were ceramics, needle work, painting, and crafting.  She was an avid bowler and bowled on a league at Marietta Bowling Lanes for many years.  She traveled all over the country bowling and was extremely proud of her team winning the National Bowling Tournament in 1971 by one pin!

Faye was a devout Christian and a very active member of her church, Holy Trinity.  Over the years, she served as usher, communion assistant, was on the church council, taught confirmation classes, belonged to WELCA and was a youth group leader.  She was also a Girl Scout leader for many years.  She was considered by many to be their "second Mom".

She was passionate about telling corny jokes, The Hallmark Channel, eating out, her cat "Baby", spending time with and speaking on the phone with her family.

Faye is survived by her daughters, Dee (Greg) Hughes, and Jodi Post; grandchildren, Paige (Tony) Yockers, and Macie Post; and great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Anthony, and Willow Faye Yockers; nephews, Jerry Kidd, Jinx (Terrianne) Kidd and Mitch (Jane) Stout; and niece, Page (Mike) Aman.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents, George and Alverta; her sisters, Oleen (Joe) Kidd and Betty (Max) Stout; and son-in-law, William Post.

In lieu of flowers, Faye had requested contributions be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church's Sunday morning music program.
