Irene Beasley Gantt of Marietta, Ga, died October 22, 2021. She was 90 years old and the youngest of 11 children. She graduated from Osborne High School and went to work at RKO Records in Atlanta. She would ride the trolley from Fair Oaks to downtown Atlanta and back every day for work. She met Max Gantt at a high school basketball game and they were married in February, 1953. Irene briefly worked at Lockheed in Human Resources as a typist before having two sons; Terry in 1955 and Don in 1959. Irene inherited her love for gardening from her mother and was a long-time member of the Mount Bethel Garden Club where she serviced as president multiple times over the years. She loved arranging flowers and won several ribbons and awards at the State Fair. Once the boys were in school, Irene earned her real estate license and sold real estate throughout the 70s and early 80s. Max and Irene were charter members at Eastside Baptist Church where Irene continued to attend and serve through her later years. Irene Gantt was married to Max Gantt for 53 years before Max passed away in 2006.
Irene Gantt is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Terry C. Gantt and Glenda Gantt and Don L. Gantt and Greta Gantt; Grandchildren and spouses, Beth and Bryan Rosengrant, Dorothy and William Norris, Jeff and Patricia Gantt, Miles and Emily Gantt, Sam and Mallory Gantt; great grandchildren, Maxwell and Olive Rosengrant, Anthony, Patrick and Finley Norris, Autumn, Willow, and Violet Gantt.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 2 nd at 12:30pm at Eastside Baptist Church, 2450 Lower Roswell Rd., Marietta, GA 30068 to be followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Eastside Baptist's Senior Adult Ministry.
The family wished to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sunrise Assistant Living Facility in Marietta and Hospice for the kindness, and compassion, and support shown to Irene in her final days. We are grateful for their dedication and selflessness.
