Jack E. Benton January 31, 1945 - September 14, 2026
Let's celebrate the life of a quiet steady good man. His wife, son, nieces, nephews, brother-in-law Al, other family, and friends will miss him greatly but it was time to move on. We are grateful for the 81 years we got to spend with him on this earth. A new journey now begins for all of us, especially Jack. He was born to Nat and Pearl Benton on January 31, 1945 and raised along with sisters Lee and Lisa in Detroit. Both sisters predeceased Jack. He graduated from Wayne State University in mathematics-he was a true math head who gravitated to the world of computers where he lived for 40 plus career years. His son Richard Sean Benton (Toby) was born in Detroit and currently resides with his wife Toby in Scottsdale, Arizona. He and Jack had several white water rafting adventures and lots of phone chats. Jack married Anita (Wender) on 1/9/1977 and he was trying so hard to make it to their 50th. They moved around a bit, from Detroit to D.C. to Seattle, Denver, and then Atlanta for 40 plus years. He loved tennis from the first racquet his Uncle Arthur bought him as a kid, playing until a few years ago and missing it when he could not. He loved music, science, history, politics, photography and his dogs. He read voraciously and liked to entertain with humor. He became the energizer bunny for years through several health challenges. We are planning a celebration of his life perhaps combined with his 50th wedding anniversary and will be sure to get notices/invitations to you once final plans are made.
