James "Wally" Harris of Kings Mountain, North Carolina went home to be with his Savior on June 20, 2024

Wally and his wife Carolyn settled in Canton, Georgia after raising their girls in several states throughout his career. They met at Gardner Webb University, where he was the quarterback of the football team. They married six months after they met, and lived 59 special years together. In their 59 years together, they grew their family with three girls, eight grandchildren, and two great granddaughters.

Wally loved spending time with his family, playing tennis, working out at the gym, and traveling.

They would visit their grandchildren in Kansas City, spend time at the beach, play tennis in Palm Springs, sailed on an Alaskan Cruise, and count the chickens in Hawaii. Most recently, they went on the trip of a lifetime with friends and went to five countries throughout Europe.

Wally was an incredible and loving brother, husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his "Brother George" whom he loved very much. His three girls, Lynn (Mark), Jennifer (David), and Ashlie (Joey) were his whole world. He and Carolyn have 8 beloved grandchildren - Marcus, Christopher (Chloe), Samantha (Matthew), Jordan, Connor, Jacob, Sophie, and Maddie. Wally loved spending time with his family and cherished the memories they would make at Fort Myers Beach every year. He recently became a great-grandpa to two girls, Adaline who was waiting for him in Heaven and Lainey whom he loved to hold and call his "greatest grandchild".

Wally and Carolyn were faithful members of Sandy Plains Baptist Church for 30 years. Wally served in the church as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher and always encouraged others to read the Bible "cover to cover". More than anything, Wally knew that his faith in Christ was the most important thing. He led his family in a way that honored Christ and they can be confident knowing he is in heaven with his Savior.

In lieu of flowers, we would welcome any donations in his name to be made to Sandy Plains Baptist Church .

The memorial service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 2:00pm at Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia. The family will receive friends and visitors from 12:45pm - 1:45pm.

We welcome you to wear blue to the service as that was his favorite color.
