Jerald Sherman (Sergeant Major, Retired, United States Army), age 82, of Marietta, GA, passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2025. He was born in California on December 18, 1942, the son of Olga E. Durald and Raymond W. Sherman. His brothers Henry and Searl Grant and both parents precede him in death.

He met and married the love of his life, Diane Sherman, also a U.S. Army Veteran, when they were both stationed in Panama in 1978. She lovingly cared for him at home for the last 4 years.

He is survived by daughter, Chiyeko Sherman Perry, son-in-law Robin Perry and grandchildren Miles and Rachel Perry, and Denise Grant (niece) and Gary Grant (nephew).

Jerald was drafted in 1966, and served 26 years in the Military Police specialty, having served during several conflicts, including the Vietnam War and Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm / Desert Shield). His assignments included:
• Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, 1967
• USARPAC - Japan, 1968 - 1971
• 13th MP Company, Thailand, 1971 - 1973
• 57th MP Company, West Point, NY, 1973
• 163rd MP Company, Presidio, CA, 1974
• 95th MP Battalion, Wurzburg, Germany, 1975 - 1977
• 534th and 227th MP Company, Panama, 1977 - 1980
• US Army Military Community, Hanau, Germany, 1980 - 1984
• USAG Law Enforcement Activity and HQ, 3rd Army, Ft. McPherson, GA 1984 - 1992.
• Retired after 26 years dedicated and honorable service, obtaining the rank of Sergeant Major.

Jerald was an avid musician. He was a percussionist, playing conga drums from his early teens. he loved AfroCuban Jazz and any kind of latin music. He performed with many bands over the years and all over the world, to include WorldWide Groove; They played in various venues and the athlete village for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
