John Barry Dean, age 75, passed at his home in Dallas, GA on May 14, 2025.
John was born in Aberdeen, WA on August 28, 1949. He was raised by his parents
Eddie and Irene Dean in Arab, Alabama and graduated Arab High School in 1967.
Sgt Major Dean enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1968 and had over 36 years of
honorable service as an avionics technician in two attack squadrons and joined the
reserve force in 1975 at NAS Atlanta, Georgia. He was known for his technical avionics
expertise and taking care of "His Marines". He deployed on a combat tour in support of
Desert Storm / Desert shield in 1990. He served in senior leadership positions with the
4th Marine Aircraft Wing and 4th division units and retired as the Sergeant Major of the
24th Marine Regiment in 2004.
John received both his bachelor's degree and master's degrees from Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University
John's professional career included stints at Boeing, Martin Marietta, Rockwell, and
ended at Lockheed Martin as a quality engineer in the F-22 Raptor program before
retirement in 2012
John's Christian faith was important to him as he loyally supported his church, local and
worldwide missions, church planting efforts, and many other faith-based organizations.
John continued to serve his community in many ways. He had a special heart for our
public school system and he was elected to the Paulding County School Board in 2018
and served over six years with enthusiasm and a deep love for the students, staff, and
schools he represented.
John is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years Sandra Kay Dean of Dallas, Ga,
Son, John P. Dean (Suzanne), Daughter, Tamara Dean, and Daughter, Ilea Crum
(Steven).
Grandchildren, Hailey Frederiksen (Sean), Kera Durham (Eric), Jessica Lee (Steven),
Emily Crum, Kallie Capes (Alissa), Devin Provost, Ryan Coggins, Aubrey Crum, Emma
Coggins, and Samuel Aldridge.
Great Grandchildren, Ellesey Durham, Amelia and Clara Frederiksen, and Karter
Capes.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Irene Dean of Arab, AL and his
three sisters, Dorothy Gross, Doris McCurdy, and Patsy Maddox.
In lieu of flowers, John requested a donation in his honor to the Paulding
Education Foundation (PEF) whose scholarship assistance provides much
needed tuition relief to those in his community. The PEF website can be found at
