John Lee Houchens, 62, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026.

Born on March 3, 1964, John was the son of the late Edith "Edie" Houchens of Woodstock, Georgia, and John Lee Houchens of Charlottesville, Virginia.

Johnny spent many years in the industrial glass installation business and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his family. He retired early to become the primary caregiver for his mother, a role he embraced with love and devotion.

John enjoyed cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, watching NASCAR racing, and spending time with his family. His greatest joy was his grandson, Gavin. Even after losing his sight to macular degeneration, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch listening to the radio.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Megan Houchens. He is survived by his grandson, Gavin Lee Houchens; his half-brother, William Robert (Bobby) Engle, a daughter, Nancy Lewis and other extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.  It is our thoughts to have his ashes scattered alongside those of his mother on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Because John retired early to care for his mother, his financial resources were limited. Those who wish to assist with his final expenses may contact Steve Sweat or Gwen Sweat Gloeckner. We would also be remiss in not thanking Gary & Sue Curtis and Neighbors for taking care of Johnny over the past several years.
