John J. McGahee, age 78, of Marietta, GA, went to his heavenly home to be with Jesus on August 8, 2025.   He fought a long battle with a rare autoimmune disease but never stopped praising His Lord and Savior.

John was born in Thomaston, GA on June 8, 1947, to the late John C. McGahee and Dorothy Middlebrooks McGahee. He graduated from R E Lee High School in 1965 and later attended Georgia Tech.  He left GA Tech to serve four years in the Army including one year in Viet Nam.  He loved the military life.

After leaving the Army, he was employed by LTV Steel until God called him into ministry and then earned a Master of Religious Education from Luther Rice Seminary.  John served several churches in the north metro area.  He loved to talk to just about anyone about the Bible.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Kelly, granddaughter Bethany Newborn, and step-granddaughter, Melanie Haggard.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years whom he started dating in 7th grade.  Also, survived by daughter, Shara (Paul) Curry of Austell, GA, son, Scott McGahee, stepsons, Gil (Tricia) Holmes of Camden, SC and Stan (Lisa) Holmes of Dallas, GA and stepdaughter, Belinda (Ian) Haggard of Austin, TX.  Also, surviving are grandchildren Gerald Newborn and Katie McGahee, step-grandchildren, Jacob Haggard, Celeste (Matthew) Rivera, Hannah Holmes, Mady Holmes, Larry Holmes and Miriam Holmes.

Graveside service will be at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr., Canton GA at 2pm on Wednesday, August 13.
