John Paul
Zervic
Nov 17, 1948 — Dec 30, 2023
Marietta
John Paul Zervic, born November 17, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, was a selfless, devoted man- devoted to his church, his family, and his community. John served the US in the Army during the Vietnam War. When he returned, he married his high school sweetheart, Judie Alley, in 1971. Together, they raised a beautiful family and created a community wherever they went.
He worked a long career in numerous roles in construction. Even in retirement, he continued to serve his community, by refereeing youth athletics and serving as an election poll worker for Cobb County. A self-proclaimed "car guy," John was able to share his love of cars with his grandson, Cooper. He also loved a game of golf with his sons. John so loved his family, his three children, his three grandchildren and countless granddogs and was so proud of all of them.
John personified the expression "actions speak louder than words." He was a man of few words, but you would always know where his heart was. No distance was too far to go for of his children's or grandchildren's graduations, cheer competitions, or hockey games. And if he could pair that with a side trip to an auto auction, even better.
John was a devout man, faithful to his religion and embraced his Polish heritage. passing along many family traditions and recipes. Many Sundays were spent in the kitchen, making Polish dishes for family dinner while Chicago Bears games played on TV. It was befitting that his last earthly adventure took him to the birthplace of his ancestors, Lipsk, Poland. He discovered his love for travel later in life, and in his last few years enjoyed trips to Great Britain, Antarctica and Eastern Europe.
John passed peacefully at home, after a short battle with cancer, on December 30, 2023. He
was surrounded by his wife of 52 years Judie (Alley), and his three children, Christopher
(Laura) Zervic; Carey Branca; and Curtis (Josette) Zervic. He is also survived by his three
grandchildren, Stephanie Niemann (Ryan Cathay); Charlotte Zervic and Cooper Zervic; his
brother and best friend, Steve Zervic, and his sister, Kate (Will) Tremont. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Frank and Francis (Zaucha) Zwierowicz and his beloved sister, Mary
Ann Zwierowicz.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta, Georgia, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. John will be laid to rest at St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery in Niles, Illinois.
