Kimberly Jeffri Holloway Karr passed away peacefully in the early hours of Thursday, July 30, following an extended illness.A native Atlantan, Kim was the eldest daughter of Barbara Ellen Holloway (née Hammar) and William Fred Holloway. Born in 1946 in East Point, Georgia, she spent her childhood there before living briefly in Alabama and later in Hapeville, where she graduated from Walter F. George High School.In her early twenties, Kim developed a deep appreciation for music and became part of Atlanta's vibrant folk music community, where she formed a lifelong friendship with singer-songwriter and guitarist Ellen McIlwaine. Drawn by a spirit of adventure, she later traveled to California and lived for a time in San Francisco's legendary Haight-Ashbury district during its cultural renaissance. There she witnessed the emergence of iconic artists, including Jefferson Airplane and Jimi Hendrix. Her love of music remained a constant throughout her life, and in later years she was an enthusiastic supporter of the Atlanta folk group Banks and Shane.Over the years, Kim built a career marked by adaptability and dedication. She worked for the Georgia Game and Fish Commission and later served as a secretary with the Buckhead law firm of Bell & Desiderio. Following her marriage to Jesse Lee Karr III, she moved to North Carolina, where their son, Jesse Lee Karr IV, was born. Together they owned and operated a number of dry-cleaning businesses in Rutherfordton and later Asheville, where Kim made her home for several years.In the 1990s, Kim returned to Georgia, settling in Duluth. She worked with the Racquet Club of the South before joining Brunswick Bowling Centers as a manager. Her career with Brunswick took her to London, Ontario, and later to Connecticut before she eventually returned to Atlanta, the city she always considered home, to enjoy her retirement.The arrival of her granddaughter brought Kim back to North Georgia, first to Cartersville and later to Austell, where she made her home with her son. Having lived in so many places throughout her life, she fondly referred to herself as a "Georgia Gypsy," a nickname that reflected both her adventurous spirit and her enduring love for her home state.Above all, Kim treasured her family. She delighted in spending time with her sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins, never missing an opportunity to catch up on their lives. She also enjoyed classic television, exploring the internet, and sharing stories and laughter with those she loved. She will be remembered for her warm heart, lively sense of humor, genuine curiosity about others, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her kindness and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.Kim is survived by her son, Jesse Lee Karr IV; her granddaughter, Cayleigh Karr; her sisters, Laura Joan Gelblat (Harry) and Cynthia Carrie Crowder (Marion); her nephews, Joseph Gelblat (Hannah) and Ethan Crowder; and her nieces, Morgan Griffin (Walker Hutchinson) and Amelia Crowder.A celebration of Kim's life will be held at a later date.
