Obituary

Capt. Larry R. Davidson (USMC ret.) was called to his final duty station on Monday, September 25, 2023, with his family by his side. He was 89 years old.

Larry was born in Helena, Arkansas on December 19, 1933. His family moved to Paola, Kansas, where he attended school, graduating from Paola High in 1951. Immediately after graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corps, beginning his service in the Korean Conflict. In 1966, before his tour of duty in Vietnam, Larry was one of the enlisted men selected to be promoted to officer status. He retired as a captain in 1972. During his 21-year military career Larry received many commendations, ribbons, medals, and citations which include the Purple Heart, Navy Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Armed Forces Action Medal, Presidential Unit Citation Medal, amongst many more.

After retiring, Larry and his family moved back to Paola, where he developed his philatelic business and established a thriving mail order company, serving collectors worldwide. In 1977 he moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he met and married Linda Julias. The couple moved to Marietta, Georgia in 1981. Larry joined the Civil Air Patrol in 1985, attaining the rank of colonel and becoming Commander of the Georgia Wing Headquarters.

Larry was a member of Grace Church Town Center, a charter member of the Marine Corps Mustang Association, life member of the Marine Corps Association, The Marine Corps League, The Retired Officer's Association, American Philatelic Society, American Topical Society, and MENSA.

Larry leaves behind his loving wife, Linda; 3 children, Teri Debaylo (Palmetto, FL), Tim Davidson (Oxford, AL), Christine (Will) Frazier (Arlington, VA), 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, as well as many extended family members and friends.

Larry was an honorable, respectful, loving, and caring individual. He loved his Lord Jesus, family, his beloved Corps, and his country. His presence will be immensely missed!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Tunnels to Towers

Inurnment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 2:00pm.
