On November 7, 2023 heaven gained an angel and earth lost a damn good man! Mark Carl Bessey of Marietta, Georgia passed away at Kennestone Hospital, after a lengthy illness. A memorial service is planned for January 13, 2024 at Marietta Funeral Home, Marietta, GA

Mark was Born on July 10, 1954 in Morris, IL to the Late Calvin Boyd Bessey and the late Ruth Ellen (Andersen) Bessey. Mark grew up in Ottawa, IL graduating from Ottawa Township High School in 1972. Mark attended the University of Illinois where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture in 1976 and his Masters Degree in Structural Engineering in 1978.

Mark worked as a Senior Technical Analyst at eQuorum, Atlanta, GA of 32 years.

Mark was a very active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran in Marietta, where he served on the church council, sang in the church choir, assisted with communion on Sunday mornings, and served as a Stephen Minister as well as a Stephen Minister leader and trainer. Mark also served on the Sanctuary Renewal Committee and the Columbarium Committee as well as in many other capacities.

Mark's parents preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of over 26 years, Lea Rainey Bessey, his 3 children, Damien (Heather) Stewart of Cumming, GA, Clayton (Charlee) Stewart, Marietta, GA and Emily Stewart (Alexander) Dodgen of Upatoi, GA. The joys of his life were his 8 grandchildren, Liza Yates, Nora and Carson Stewart, Abigail Stewart and Hunter, Caroline, Lucy and Grace Dodgen. He also leaves his sister Marcia Bessey (Ron) Fetzer of Bloomington, IL and niece Amanda (Dan) Fischer and nephew Mark (Kristal) Fetzer, great nieces Lauren and Paige Fischer and great nephew Connor Fetzer.

The family will receive visitors at Marietta Funeral Home, 915 Piedmont Rd., Marietta, GA 30066 on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 12:00PM-1:00PM with the memorial service immediately following at 1:00PM.
