Michael John Thompson, 87, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2023, in Marietta, GA. Mike was a beloved husband, father and grandfather; fraternity brother, Scoutmaster and friend to many that he considered family.

Michael was born on May 3, 1936 in San Antonio, TX. He and his father moved from Texas to Glendale, CA and, in 1954, Mike graduated from Glendale High School. He attended Glendale Community College and was a member of Sigma Phi Sigma fraternity, where he formed lifelong friendships.

Michael married Eleanor (Lawless) Thompson on December 23, 1967 in Los Angeles, CA. The couple had 3 children, Mike Kramer, of Los Angeles, CA, Mark Kramer, also of Los Angeles, and Greg Thompson, of Eden Prairie, MN.

Michael had a career spanning over 35 years at Lockheed Martin Corporation, where he worked as an electrical engineer. He also served in the U.S. Navy. Michael was a longtime member of the Glendale Jaycees and served as a mentor and Scoutmaster for Troop 188 in Eagle Rock, CA for over ten years. In 1994, when Lockheed Martin relocated, he and his wife Eleanor moved to Marietta, GA. He retired in 1999 and has since enjoyed traveling the U.S. to visit family and friends.

Michael is survived by son Mike, grandchildren Mike and Michelle; son Mark, daughter-in-law Juana, grandchildren Paul and Bonnie; son Greg, daughter-in-law Julie, and granddaughter Katelyn, as well as a large extended family. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Thompson and Alice "Peggy" (Miller) Thompson, his brother Sammy Thompson, and his beloved wife Eleanor.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 17th, at 10am, followed by a memorial service at 11am, at Marietta Funeral Home, 915 Piedmont Road, Marietta, GA 30066. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Boy Scouts of America .
