It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Nan Taylor McLeod, on June 28, 2026 in Marietta, GA.

Born in Tuscaloosa, AL on January 27, 1947 to Fredaline "Freddie" Hamner Taylor and Herbert "Ivan" Taylor, Nan graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1964, where she was a proud member of the Band and the Majorettes. She was also honored as Miss Sophomore, Junior Class Beauty, Queen of Hearts, Miss THS, Key Club Sweetheart, and Homecoming Queen.

She attended the University of Alabama, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and Science. While at the University was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, a Sigma Chi Sweetheart, and a Corolla Beauty. She married, Allan "Al" McLeod, Jr. on November 27, 1968.

After graduating, Nan taught high school science for one year before moving with Al to Pensacola, FL, where she worked for Gulf Power Company. Throughout Al's career their family made their homes in six FL cities along the Gulf Coast. However, no matter where life took her, she was always proud to call Alabama home. Her greatest joy and life's calling was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She embraced being a stay-at-home mom and dedicated countless hours volunteering at her children's school and in her church.

In 2012, she moved to Marietta, GA to be closer to her children and grandchildren who were the center of her world. Along with spending time with family, she was an avid movie watcher. She enjoyed reading, keeping in touch with longtime friends, taking shopping trips to NYC (especially at Christmas time), wine tasting in Napa Valley with her daughters and she especially loved travelling all over Great Britain and Ireland with family creating memories that will be forever cherished.

Nan loved Alabama football and Braves baseball. Her laughter was loud and recognizable. She had the ability to make you feel like you were the only person in the room. She didn't just light up a room, she was the life force of it. The only thing greater than Nan's smile was her capacity to love, encourage and care for others. She affectionally called her daughter Elizabeth her "heart "and her son, Allan her "soul." She lived how she loved to travel, "first class" in every way with grace, generosity, warmth and style.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, her father, and her mother. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Dennis) McLeod Horton; her son, Allan (Amy) Lamar McLeod; her grandchildren, Kate McLeod Latourette, Liam McLeod Horton, and Jace Hiro McLeod; her sister, Virginia Taylor; her brother, Ivan Taylor; 10 adoring nieces and nephews; and a large extended family who will forever cherish her memory.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the University Club in Tuscaloosa, AL. No black please! Wear your most uplifting summer colors.
