Norma
Carter
Jun 23, 1931 — Jan 10, 2025
Norma Carter, 93, was born June 23, 1931 on Lower Roswell Road in Marietta. She was the daughter of Horace and Rossie Gantt and a lifelong resident of Cobb County. She was a devoted wife, selfless mother, engaged grandmother, and blessed great-grandmother.
She was a committed follower of Jesus Christ. She and her husband, Calvin Carter, were charter members of Eastside Baptist Church, remaining active members throughout their lives. Upon retirement from Marietta Drapery Company, Norma became an enthusiastic, amateur genealogist. She enjoyed researching how the families of Cobb County were related and connected. Her discoveries led to volumes of documents and stories that will be treasured by generations to come. Through it all, she found joy in simple pleasures. She passed away at her home, on the land where she was raised.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Janet Parker; five grandchildren, Jennifer Coetzer (Adrian), Amy Smith (Byron), Matt Thornton, Allen Parker (Chelsee), Matthew Parker (Molly); and nine great-grandchildren, Sutton Coetzer, Leanna Smith, Adalyn Smith, Mhadelyne Coetzer, Kathryn Smith, Jacob Coetzer, Carter Smith, Caleb Coetzer, and Jackson Parker. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Calvin Carter, and daughter, Cheryl Thornton.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home, with Dr. Adrian Coetzer officiating. The family will receive friends and visitors for one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Defender of the Fatherless , which supports the orphanage where two of Norma's great-grandchildren were adopted from in the Philippines.
