Pauline (Polly) Rogers Hamby, 95, of Marietta, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. Due to the statewide health mandated restrictions for the COVID-19 pandemic, a Private Family Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 31 ^st with Rev. Richard Duncan and Rev. Branden Fuller officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery.  For those who are not able to attend, you may follow the service via live streaming on the Marietta Funeral Home Facebook page.

Polly was born December 9, 1924, in Marietta, GA.  She was the sixth child of twelve born to Joseph Boone Rogers and Laura Hendrix Rogers, (three boys and nine girls).  She was a lifelong resident of Cobb County.  She attended Blackwell Elementary School and Acworth High School.  In the fifth grade, her teacher told her that reading books would take her all over the world.  She became an avid reader the rest of her life.  She may not have left her home to travel the world, but she read about the world from her home.

Polly met her future husband Ersie Hamby while working at the National Youth Administration.  They fell in love and the rest is history.  He was the love of her life.   Ersie went to Charleston, SC to build ships for WWII.  They married and Polly joined him in Charleston.  Ersie joined the Navy and Polly returned to Marietta with their first child, Charles.  Ersie and Polly were stationed in Jacksonville for a while.  They returned to Marietta and went on to have a total of six children.

Polly and Ersie joined Mt Arbor Baptist Church in 1954 where they remained members until their passing. Polly sang in the choir for all those years.  She loved her church family.

Besides being a wife, mother and homemaker, Polly worked as a daycare manager, worked at a sock factory, worked at Consolidated Designs where she made silk arrangements silk trees, and was the floral designer at Woodstock Furniture and Mattress Outlet until she retired.  Polly was WFMO's first employee in 1988 and their first retiree.

Polly was an avid Braves fan, avid reader, loved spending time in the Smokey Mountains with Ersie and her family, loved her roses, loved bird watching with the grandchildren, loved climbing trees with her grandchildren, loved her family/friends, loved her country but most of all she loved Jesus more than anything.  She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 76 years, Ersie Hamby; son, Tommy Hamby; siblings, Chester Rogers, Lucille Lovinggood, Estelle Ponder, Claude Rogers, Hazel Goodson, Christine Kohrn, Laura Jean Hamby, Irene Tinel and Pat Farmer.  Survived by her children, Charles Hamby of Temple, Judy Aaron of Canton, Faye Nash of Blairsville, Barry Hamby of Marietta, David Hamby of Temple; (27) grandchildren; (51) great-grandchildren; (31) great-great-grandchildren; (3) great-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Vera Lemons of Temple; brother, Hayward Rogers of Douglasville.
