On Monday, June 15, 2020, Rex Edwin Horney, loving husband, friend, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 75 at his home in Cherokee County, Georgia. Rex is survived by his three loving children: John (Carol), Wesley (Caroline) and Catherine Elizabeth (Catie-Beth) (Cody), three step children: Anthony, Tiffany, and Chelsea, eight grandchildren: AJ, Joshua, Lisa, Samantha, Rebecca, Rachael, Daniel, and Caiden Rex, great granddaughter Georgia, brother Gary, former wife and close friend, Nannette Durkee, former wife and close friend Cindy Horney, and many beloved extended family members.
Rex was born in Payne, Ohio on November 24, 1944, to the late Edwin and June Horney. Rex's father was a farmer and carpenter. Rex was the second oldest of four children and had two sisters who predeceased him – June and Patricia. Rex played sports and worked on the family farm until he graduated from Payne High School. Rex then moved to the Atlanta area where he started his own business and became a successful entrepreneur and contractor.
Rex was known for his generosity and kindness. He selflessly invested his time and resources into the lives of others. Rex spent countless hours volunteering and leading in charitable organizations and a men's leadership organization. Rex will be remembered for his devotion to his family, friends, and the community. Rex was one who never met a stranger and will be fondly remembered for his hospitality and kindness. Rex impacted the lives of so many and had a tight bond with numerous close friends with whom he traveled, fellowshipped, and shared in life. Rex was a long-time member of Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia.
A Celebration of Life in memory of Rex Horney will be held on Saturday, July 11 th , 2020, at 11 am at the VCCI Pavilion and Club House located at 103 Myrtle Road in Woodstock, GA 30189.
