Robert Moore
Thorpe
Aug 26, 1929 — Nov 7, 2024
Robert Moore (Bob) Thorpe passed away on November 7,2024 in Marietta, GA at the age of 95.
Bob grew up in Cherry Tree, PA. In 1949 he enlisted in the Navy, serving four years into the Korean War. After his discharge, he married Patricia Weaver in 1953. He graduated as a mechanical engineer from the University of Pittsburgh and began his first job with Ford Motor Company, receiving two patents while there. Later he worked for Bell Aerospace, helping in the development of the Surface Effect Ships, specifically the SES 100B.
He was an active volunteer in church and a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge. After retirement Bob continued to serve the church, as well as substitute teach at local high schools. He became a Master Gardener and, as always, continued his love of restoring cars-especially his MG TDs.
He is preceded in death by his wife Pat. He is survived by his son Scott Thorpe and his wife Rhonda and his daughter Kathy Milburn and her husband Fred, five grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
