Obituary

Rolf Grimmer Katzenstein of Marietta, GA passed away on October 27, 2024 at the age of 79. He was born in New Haven, CT, the son of the late Dr. Rolf Ewald Katzenstein and Dr. Hildegarde Arnold and his late in-laws Thomas J O'Shea and Dorothy A O'Shea. Rolf is survived by his wife, Maureen O'Shea-Katzenstein, his sister, Dr. Anna-Luise Katzenstein, brother-in-law Dr. Michael Mazur and their children, Thomas (Xingni Chen) and Kristen (David Allison) and several cousins in Germany and New Zealand. He also leaves behind the O'Shea siblings, Tom (Lynn), Rita, Mary (Mike), Dorothy (John), Patricia (Don), John (Cindy), Karen, Daniel (Faye) and many nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs Poppy and Lily.

Rolf grew up in Cheshire, CT, graduating from Cheshire Academy at the age of 16; followed by a year at the American School in Switzerland. He later attended Beloit College in Beloit, WI for one year. Following was his enlistment in the USMC for four years serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. After his military service, he completed his undergraduate degree at Beloit in three years and enrolled at the University of Wisconsin School of Law, graduating in 1975 with a Doctor of Law (JD) degree. Following graduation he specialized in trucking law. He became Vice President for several trucking companies in Wisconsin and was widely respected as a knowledgeable, experienced consultant in the trucking industry.

He then moved to Illinois and later to Georgia where he built an impressive business that was nationally known as Farmington Risk Management. He consulted with many large companies on security issues. He managed this business until his retirement in 2018.

Rolf was a man of many talents and interests which ranged from flying airplanes, photography, wood-working, boating, motorcycling and bicycling to name a few. He was especially proud of his military service, and he remained loyal to the Marine Corps for his entire adult life.

Rolf will be interred on December 6, 2024 at 11:30am at the National Cemetery in Canton, GA in the Columbarium with full military honors. (GA Hwy 20, Exit 16)
