Obituary

Mr. Roy Lee " Charm " Russell, 90, of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 11, 2022, with his three loving children gathered around him.

The son of the late William Thomas and Ollie Cronan Russell, Roy was born in Postelle, Tennessee, on February 13, 1932. Roy grew up in the copper hills of Tennessee, working on the farm, and playing on the banks of the Ocoee River. Because of his witty grin and ability to "charm" most everyone he knew, Roy became known as " Charm ".

Roy loved the outdoors, whether rough-housing with his brothers, or taking detours through " Mud Cut ", the path through the woods to adventures along Brushy Creek.  Roy played running back on the football team at Ducktown High School for three years. After graduating in 1951, Roy proudly joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War until 1953. Roy also attended The University of Alabama, and Young Harris College.

Roy met Margaret Davidson, the daughter of a local pastor, when he was still a young man, and soon after, married her! He became a Christian at the age of 23, and was baptized by Margaret's father, Golie Davidson, who was also instrumental in leading him to the Lord. Roy and Margaret raised three children, Barry, Cindy, and Alan, in Marietta, Georgia, where they were deeply involved in faith, family, and fellowship. Roy spent many hours on the ball fields coaching his kids, and many others, in baseball, softball, and other sports. He also enjoyed camping and took his family on many adventures. Being a devout Christian, he loved his church and was an active member. Roy worked most of his career at General Motors in Atlanta, Georgia. A devoted husband and father, he supported and cared for the love of his life, Margaret, until her death in 2001.

Perhaps Roy and Margaret's greatest joys were the eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren they were blessed with. Nothing gave them more joy than being involved in every facet of the grandchildren's lives. Roy was often heard saying, " You're so sweet I can hardly stand it! " and his signature line, " I love you the most! "

Roy is survived by his children Barry Lee Russell (Kelly) of Magnolia Springs, Alabama, Cindy Russell Wofford (Joey) of Lynchburg, Virginia, their children Savannah Staples (Logan), Russell Wofford, Sommer Wofford, Sarah Wofford, and Alan Frank Russell (Shannon) of Holly Springs, Georgia, their children Margaret Ann George, Asher and Phoenix, Tyler Russell, Caroline Russell, and Will Russell.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Davidson Russell; parents Thomas and Ollie Russell; and nine brothers and sisters.

The family will be receiving visitors on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Marietta Funeral Home, 915 Piedmont Rd., Marietta, Georgia, 30066.
