It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother,
Rubye Joyce "Joyce" Correll Butts, 89, of Marietta, Georgia. Joyce passed
away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 14, 2025, at Ross Memorial
Health Care Center in Kennesaw.
Joyce was born and raised in Houston, Texas and graduated from Bethany
Lutheran School. After graduation Joyce attended classes at Concordia
University in Seward, Nebraska. Joyce worked summers for Shell in
Houston where she met Kenneth M. Butts. After marrying, she traveled
with Kenneth for Shell Pipeline Company to Casper, Wyoming where she
worked as a secretary for field operations. When Kenneth enrolled at
Texas A&M University in 1963 to pursue another career, Joyce worked as a
secretary for the TAMU Athletic Director. During that time, she also
enrolled in classes, making her one of the first women to do so.
After moving to Georgia, Joyce was an active and supportive wife and
mother. She raised her two children and was very involved in school
volunteer work. She also served as Little League Baseball Mom, Cub Scout
Den Mother and Brownie Girl Scout Leader. She worked as a secretary
and was the first service call coordinator in the early days of Coolray
Heating and Cooling Company.
Joyce enjoyed spending time with her "Georgia Family" (daughter, three
grandchildren, and four great grandchildren) and her "Texas Family" (son
and wife, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Joyce also very
much loved her extended family and considered all her nieces and
nephews as her own "kids", each with his or her own special, funny
nickname. What Joyce will most be remembered for by all her "kids" is how
she was always there in time of need and gave of herself willingly and
unselfishly. She truly lived for and loved her family. We will miss her.
Preceded in death by her parents, Arnold Correll and Gladys Correll
Schmelter and brothers Stanley Correll and Charles Correll. Joyce is
survived by her son Thomas (Tom) Butts (Kelley) of Richards, Texas.
daughter Ruthanna Butts Birchfield of Canton, Georgia, two grandsons,
three granddaughters and seven great grandchildren.

Graveside services are pending at Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery
in Houston, Texas.
