Sarah Louise Hensley Miles was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1924 in Ballground, Georgia to Cicero Paul and Ober Penland Hensley. She was the second of four surviving Hensley children: Marble John, Sarah, Greta, and Sam, all now deceased. 

 Before 1930, her family moved to Smyrna, Georgia, living on Roswell Street in the Hensley-Porch house. Her father, a graduate of Georgia Tech, was a Civil Engineer for Cobb County and became the City Engineer for Smyrna. Both of her brothers also graduated from Georgia Tech and became Civil Engineers. 

 Sarah attended the Smyrna School, graduating in 1943. Her best friend was Ruth Collins, who later married her brother Marble John. During World War II, she worked at the Bell Bomber Plant as a Guide/Escort with access to all areas of the plant where B-29s were built. After the war she attended West Georgia College. Later, she worked at Davison's department store in downtown Atlanta as a supervisor, commuting to work on the trolley from Smyrna. 

 She met her future husband, Billy Edward Miles (the son of Francis Edward and Minerva Garwood Miles of Chattanooga, Tennessee) at a local baseball game in 1950. He was working as a sports reporter and newspaper editor, but was planning to join the USAF for Korea. Sarah's mother traded seats to put Sarah next to Bill. They were married on May 5, 1951 at Smyrna First Baptist Church, and moved into a small 2-bedroom house in a subdivision of the Hensley property along Roswell Street. 

 Bill worked as a reporter for the Marietta Daily Journal and assisted Sarah's brother Sam in his Surveying/Engineering work. Sarah was a housewife who began raising three children: Paul Edward (1952), Sarah Margaret ("Sally" - 1954), and Mary Ruth (1956). 

 In 1955, Bill founded the Smyrna Herald newspaper and in 1960, began building a new and larger house on Harris Road east of Smyrna. As the house was being finished, the economic downturn of 1960 forced him to sell the newspaper and take a job with the Veteran's Administration in Atlanta. This period was lean for the family. Bill then became a successful traveling salesman for Vanguard printing presses. The job left Sarah to raise the children frequently by herself, but also allowed the family to achieve some financial stability. The children were joined by Greta Ann in 1962. 

 Sarah's father had passed away just prior to her marriage in 1951. Her mother began suffering from cardiac disease in 1962 and moved in with the family until her passing later that year. 

 Throughout this period, Sarah performed all the classic housewife and mother jobs, raising three and then four children, often alone. She became a Brownie Scout and Girl Scout Leader, and along with Bill, was a founding member of Hurt Road Baptist Church. In 1964, Bill and Sarah decided to create their own business, using Sarah's inheritance: Bill E. Miles Advertising and Printing. The business began in the basement of the Harris Road home, producing direct mail advertising circulars primarily for local grocery stores. Sarah became adept at typesetting, paste-up, proof-reading, and accounting. The business was successful, and the family entered a period of relative comfort. The company expanded and moved to an office in Smyrna. Ultimately, Bill and Sarah bought an office building on South Cobb Drive. 

 The period of the late 60s and early 70s saw camping, visits with the families of Sarah's siblings, road trips around the country, raising pets, teaching driving, and girls' softball. Weekends usually included a gathering of the Miles family and the Quarles family: Bill's sister, brother-in-law, and their children. 

 All four of the Miles children graduated from Osborne High School in Marietta, and later from college. Paul graduated from Georgia Tech and went on to a career flying for the Navy and the airlines. Sally graduated from the University of Georgia and took over Miles Advertising before beginning her own family. Mary also graduated from The University and became a successful accountant and entrepreneur. Greta graduated from the Southern Institute of Technology in Computer Science, then began her own family. 

 In 1979, Bill suddenly passed away. Sarah was left to oversee the family business and household. She became the matriarch of a family that spread across the country. She drove herself and good friend Betty Brown up and down the east coast, visited England and Alaska, organized weddings, and welcomed six grandchildren. For 44 years, Sarah was a babysitter, friend, advisor, banker, recital and show audience member, and bridge partner. 

 Sarah is survived by her children Paul Miles (Christina) of Virgina Beach, Mary Miles of Marietta, Greta Gantt (Don), of Marietta; son-in-law Mark Panfel; grandchildren Bill Panfel (Lauren), Jake Panfel (Erika), Terri P. Kahn (Andy), Miles Gantt (Emily), Sam Gantt (Mallory), and Beth Ellen Miles; great-grandchild Sarah Panfel. 

 She was preceded in death by Bill E. Miles (Spouse), C. Paul Hensley (Father), Ober P. Hensley (Mother), Marble John & Ruth Hensley (Brother/Wife), Greta & Charles McMillian (Sister/Husband), Sam & Iris Hensley (Brother/Wife) and Sally Miles Panfel (Daughter). 

 The family will receive friends and visitors for two hours prior to the service. Services for Mrs. Sarah Miles will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 11:30 AM at Marietta Funeral Home with Rev. Adrian Coetzer officiating. Burial will follow at Marietta National Cemetery at 1:00 PM in Marietta, GA. 

 Sarah's favorite charity was the  ALS Georgia Chapter  

 The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sterling Estates Assistant Living Facility in East Cobb and Cornerstone Hospice for the kindness, and compassion, and support shown to Sarah in her final days. We are grateful for their dedication and selflessness. 

 Sarah left us peacefully on September 2, 2023.
