Sarah Elizabeth Roberts was born Sarah Elizabeth Thompson on August 15, 1932. As the youngest child of Johnny, a brick and stucco mason and Barbara, a homemaker, Sarah was the ninth child and the apple of her father's eye.

When she was seventeen years old, Sarah married the love of her life: Bill Roberts on September 16, 1949. Only two short years later, at the young age of nineteen Sarah lost her mother to a massive stroke on November 1, 1951. Between 1952 and 1962, Sarah gave birth to four children: Carl, Brenda, Rachel, and Jan. During those years, Bill bought a piece of property in Marietta, GA where he and Sarah built a house for their family that was finished in 1958. Shortly after building their home, Sarah's father came to live with them for a short period of time. Their growing family created a home full of love. Bill worked for Cobb Electric Membership Corporation and had to leave the family during a lot of storms and bad weather. In Bill's absence, Sarah kept the family together, safe, and entertained.

Sarah was active in her neighborhood, petitioning for changes that would help her family and many others. Early residents on Sloan Road can thank her for urging the post office to deliver mail to their homes, as it was originally a very rural route. Sarah organized a petition for Cobb County Schools to add additional bus stops for her children and others to ensure that they did not have to walk such a long distance to catch the bus. She successfully led a door-to-door campaign to have streetlights installed on her road alongside other neighboring dark roads. She also went door-to-door in the neighborhood and collected for Easter Seals.

Throughout the years, Sarah and Bill took their family on camping trips to different National Parks. The beaches of Florida and the Great Smoky Mountains were two of their favorite destinations that they revisited time and time again. When their children were grown up, they purchased a motorhome and continued to travel and visit different National Parks. One of Sarah's favorite places to stop along trips was Bojangles for their famous biscuits.

Sarah and husband Bill opened their home up to their grandchildren while their parents were at work and during the summer. Their door was always open. When their youngest daughter Jan unexpectedly passed away, Sarah and Bill stepped up and raised their granddaughters: Sahara and Sierra as their own. Sarah made sure she was involved in their school activities: chaperoning overnight on a class field trip and getting them to basketball practice. Sarah called the three of them: "the three musketeers."

Sarah and Bill were married for just over 50 years. They were graced with eight grandchildren that they loved and cherished. Sadly, Bill passed away in 2000 before he got to meet his 6 great-grandchildren. Sarah loved and enjoyed them all.

Sarah enjoyed celebrating holidays and birthdays, as they were always big family celebrations. She especially enjoyed Christmas, when she would make ambrosia and was able to relish her Claxton fruit cakes and chocolate covered cherries. She also enjoyed cooking and baking homemade bread from scratch. As a homemaker, Sarah also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She would often can the vegetables from her garden. The family always had a pet, but as she grew older and was not able to do as much, Sarah grew especially close to her granddaughter Sahara's dog: Ryder. She loved and cared for Ryder, even going so far as to cook meals just for her until Ryder passed away.

Sarah went to stay with her daughter Rachel for two months in 2019. While recovering from the surgery she had to fix her broken femur, Sarah was confined to her bed. Those two months allowed her to bond with her great-grandchildren, Mila and Lila who would visit her daily. Her relationship with her great-granddaughter Lila strengthened as they endlessly shared Lila's toys and sippy-cup. Lila was always eager to pick up anything that had fallen to the floor. If they were unable to come see her, Mila and Lila both loved calling Nanny and telling her what they were doing and that they loved her every day. When she went home for hospice care, they even gave her one of their favorite stuffed animals. Her great-grandchildren loved their nanny. Other great-grandkids would draw pictures for her and make her cards which she loved to get.

Sarah loved life and wanted to live to be 100 or older, but she also knew that it was up to God. She loved to socialize, meet new people, and make new friends. However, she lost her hearing due to congestive heart failure. Sarah tried to hear and could if you had a strong loud voice. If she couldn't hear, she would try to read your lips. Sarah was a very smart woman and could often be caught watching the news or looking up new words in the dictionary.

Sarah attended the Marietta Seventh Day Adventist Church for more than fifty years until her health failed her. At that time, she began to faithfully watch Joel Osteen.

Sarah passed away on March 30, 2022 after a 1 year and 2 day battle with stage IV metastatic breast cancer that ended up spreading to her lungs. With the help of in-home hospice care, God blessed Sarah with her granddaughter Sahara, who took care of her day and night during her last months. After Sarah suffered a stroke in November 2021, she lost the ability to stand up, walk, talk, read, and feed herself; Sarah's family were told she had only hours-to-days left. Sarah was a fighter, and a survivor, and ended up living for four more months. During those last four months, she regained the ability to walk, talk, and feed herself. God worked a miracle on her and blessed her family with the opportunity to talk with her, tell her how much they loved her, and tell her goodbye. After living in the same house for 64 years, Sarah passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She went home to be with Jesus.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Bill Carl Roberts; her youngest daughter: Jan Denise Roberts; and her oldest daughter: Brenda Grace Hamby; Her parents: Johnny Arthur Thompson and Barbara Elizabeth Thompson; Siblings: Elizabeth Thompson, Jeannette Dunn, Louise Freeman, Barbara Slay Monroe, Jessie Black, Arthur Thompson and Jack Thompson also preceded her in death.

Sarah is survived by: her son, Carl (Melanie) Roberts; daughter: Rachel (Hamid) Khodadadi; granddaughters: Sahara Jasmine Roberts and Sierra Jacqueline Roberts; son-in law: Barry J Hamby Sr.; grandchildren: Pari (Matt) Russell, Tara (Terry Lee) Watts, Terri (James) Bertrand, Barry J Hamby Jr., Blake Roberts; great-grandchildren: Mila and Lila Russell; and sister: Peggy Cash.

Sarah Elizabeth Roberts, also known as: Momma and Nanny, was and still is infinitely loved. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
