Obituary

U.S. Navy Master Chief (Ret) Thomas A. "Tom" Ogletree, 86, of Marietta passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Wellstar Hospice Care at Kennesaw Mountain.

Chief Ogletree graduated in 1957 from Gordon Military Academy in Barnsville, GA. He enlisted in the United States Navy before graduating and went on to serve 32 years, retiring as Master Chief Petty officer. During his years as a Naval Reservist, his career included working for Lockheed Martin throughout the C-5A contract and retirement from a position with the FAA after 22 years.

With over 60 years as a registered Boy Scout, and serving in various leadership roles, Tom mentored many youths over the years. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, served as Scout Master, Order of the Arrow Lodge Advisor to the Egwa Tawa Lodge 129 and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.

He was a Master Mason for over 55 years and was a member and Standing Worshipful Master of Georgia Mountain Lodge #758 F&AM, Canton and attended Woodstock Lodge #246 in Woodstock.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very fond of his extended family and held close his great circle of friends. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, golf and Native American History.

Preceded in death by his parents, James Clay and Hazel Ogletree and brother, James Clay Ogletree, Jr. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Gladelle "Judy" Ogletree of Marietta; son Bert Ogletree (Erin); daughter Denise Fries (Scott); son Bobby Ogletree (Karin); son Patrick Ogletree (Leslie), 8 beautiful granddaughters, 1 handsome grandson and 8 wonderful great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for July 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Marietta Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 31st at Marietta Funeral Home Chapel, followed by interment with Military honors at 1 pm Thursday at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
