Verlon C. Reece, 85, of Kennesaw, passed away Monday, June 7, 2021 at his home following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 11, 2021, 2:00pm in the chapel of Marietta Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Ridge Memorial Park in Kennesaw.
Mr. Reece was born August 20, 1935 in Union County, the son of the late Hoke Smith Reece and the late Lillie Mae Burnett Reece. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Reserve. Verlon married his "Top Girl" Irene Odom, residing in Marietta they raised their two children Jeffrey and Alison. He was a builder, brick mason and developer for over 42 years. Verlon loved to hunt and was an avid Braves fan. He was a loving husband, dad and a fun loving grand-pa with a great sense of humor and a smile like no other. Verlon was known and will be forever remembered to many family and friends as a "Gentle Giant". He was a member and served as a deacon at Bethlehem Baptist church in Marietta. He will be greatly missed by all.
Mr. Reece was preceded in death by his siblings, Linda Reece, Vernon Reece and Everee Reece Hamby; father-in-law, Wayne Daniels; sisters-in-law, Betty Reece, Trish Daniels and Linda Ballew; brothers-in-law, W.H. Wright, Bill Hamby and Charles Daniels.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Irene O. Reece; son, Jeffrey (Tracie) Reece of Marietta; daughter, Alison (Kraig) Pechenino of Kennesaw; grandchildren, Amanda Reece, Ashley (Jack) Ballard, Travis (Melissa) Reece, Chelsea Pechenino and Ellie Reece Pechenino; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Ballard, Lily Ballard, Scarlett Reece and Benjamin Reece; sisters; Sue Wright of Ranger, Brenda Spiva of Hiawassee and Bobbie (Bill) Honaker of Blairsville; brothers, James (Brenda) Reece of Marietta, Rex (Marcia) Reece of Kingston; mother-in-law, Essie Daniels; sisters-in-law, Jean (Buddy) Esposito, Janet Hilgerson, Nancy (Bernard) McVey; brother-in-law, Tony (Alene) Daniels. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Travis Reece, Kevin Reece, Jack Ballard, Stephen Reece, Steve Echols and Terry White; honorary pallbearers, Charles Shiflett, Bill Honaker, Paxton Hamby, Keith Hamby, Alan Hamby, Coy Burns, Ray Odom and David Swales.
