Obituary

Robert Zander Hattersley

June 2, 2002 - November 19, 2023

Robert Zander Hattersley, age 21, of Woodstock, GA, tragically departed this world too soon on November 19th, the passenger in a drunk driving accident on Arnold Mill Road, one mile from his home. Zander was a cherished son to Robert and Lisa Hattersley, a beloved brother to Mitchell and Regan Hattersley, and a beacon of light in the lives of many.

Zander's passion for sports began at the age of 5, as he started his journey on the football field. At 11, he discovered lacrosse, his favorite sport, though he continued to play football as well for many years. As his passion for lacrosse grew, his goal became to play competitively at the college level. Recognizing his ambition, his family moved to Cherokee County to expand his opportunities. There they found the greatest community, in which they and Zander found a true home.

In Zander's lacrosse career, he played on several teams including, Cherokee Youth Lacrosse, Xtreme, Atlanta Crush, Atlanta Kings, Atlanta Empire, Junior Woodstock Wolverines, and the River Ridge Knights, leaving an indelible mark with his skills and sportsmanship on all of his teammates and coaches. On the field, he was a fierce competitor, yet he maintained an unwavering respect for his opponents. Even when his torn ACL kept him from competition, he never failed to inspire from the sidelines, always part of the team. His camaraderie extended beyond the game, as he fostered deep bonds with teammates and rivals alike. In time many of his teammates became part of a close-knit brotherhood, for whom he would do anything.

Born on June 2, Zander was birthday twins with his great grandmother, who preceded him in death at the age of 99 just last month, holding Zander's hand. From her and the rest of his family, he developed his love of Puerto Rican food and salsa dancing at family events until all hours of the night. His family also instilled in him his deep faith in God, from which stemmed the light that drew so many people to him.

That light radiated from his infectious smile. When you saw Zander, he was never not smiling. He made everyone's day better just by being present and being a good listener. His gentle, easy-going, playful nature endeared him to all who crossed his path.

Graduating from River Ridge High School in 2021, Zander's next adventure led him to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, where he discovered a love for country music and added many friends to his pack. His 2nd ACL injury prevented him from realizing his college athletic dreams, but also led him to a newfound hobby golfing with his college friends, which he greatly enjoyed. He was a Junior pursuing a major in Construction Management, and aspired to become a Construction Project Manager, a testament to his determination and ambition.

Zander's legacy of love and light extends beyond his time with us. His family has chosen to donate his organs, bestowing the gift of life to others in the wake of this tragedy. His generosity and kindness will continue to touch lives, even beyond his own.

Zander is survived by his parents Robert and Lisa Hattersley, brother Mitchell Hattersley, sister Regan Hattersley, and sister-in-law Allenia Hattersley. Zander's impact extends far beyond his immediate family. He leaves behind a circle of cherished grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his niece, Kuiper Hattersley, and nephew, Knox Hattersley.
